[Blogtour] Playlist for the dead – Interview mit Michelle Falkoff

wie angekündigt gibt es heute bei mi den Abschlussbeitrag zur Blogtour von „Playlist for the Dead“ von Michelle Falkoff. Ich hatte die Ehre ein Online-Interview mit der Autorin führen zu können, und ihr dürft nun gespannt sein auf diese Frage-Antwort-Runde.

Hello Michelle,
I hope your day was good, and we can start with a bright smile to this interview!

1. To begin with we would like to know something about you and your book. So, could you please describe your book with 5 words and yourself in SMS length (140 characters).

Michelle:
Book: Sad boys, death, and music
Me: Author, writing teacher, recovering lawyer, poker player, and more…

2. How did you get the idea for a YA Novel about death and how to live with it?

Michelle: I’d read a couple of terrific books on the topic of suicide (13 REASONS WHY and LOOKING FOR ALASKA), but both were about boys dealing with the loss of girls, and I wanted to write about a friendship between boys.

3. „Playlist for the Dead“ is a contemporary YA Novel , is this your favorite genre? When you read books is this your favorite genre too, or do you prefer other genres?

Michelle: When I think of genre, I think of mysteries versus fantasies versus literary fiction, that sort of thing. I’ve always written literary fiction, and I’m very into mysteries, so I’ve always written hybrids of those two genres in some way. When I think about YA versus adult fiction I think more about category, so in terms of category, I started out writing for adults (or at least I thought I did), but I’m finding that I enjoy writing for teenagers more at the moment, so I’m going to stick with this for as long as the teenagers will have me.

4. How do you choose the songs from the playlist in the book? Do/Did you have a favorite song?

Michelle: It was hard! At first I had all songs about suicide and death, but it was too depressing and the music wasn’t all very good. Then I chose songs that had a couple of really perfect lines for each chapter, and that made things a little easier. We weren’t able to use the lines themselves, but even just the feeling of each song helped me figure out the chapters.

5. And for all the fangirls out there the hottest question: are you planning a new project?

Michelle: Yes! I have a new book coming out in the US in October called PUSHING PERFECT, about a high school valedictorian who gets blackmailed into being part of a prescription drug ring. I’m very excited about it.

6. Now we would like to know something more about you in a special way. For the following catchphrases please make up a book title as an answer:
